For months I have not been able to consistently ping weblogs.com. I have had numerous errors pop up in Drupal, from my web host and via my net service provider. I have not been able to systematically figure out what the problem or problems are; my inner engineer has had particular trouble with that. In the past week or so things have cleared up and pings are reaching weblogs.com and audio.weblogs.com. How important is that?
In the past day there have been almost half as many downloads of Bradcast #1 as there were in the previous week. Site traffic in terms of visitors has been boosted by 30%. If your pings to weblogs.com don't get through, you are no where in the world of blogs and podcasts. I have not fixed anything yet, so who knows? In the next week I may be back to pinging purgatory. Anybody with experience in this area who can shed light on this?
Happy Thanksgiving to my American visitors; who -- after correcting for search engine visits -- account for 80% of the traffic on this site. My understanding of U.S. Thanksgiving is that it is one of the busiest days of the year for web browsing. Sort of the pause before the storm of National Shopping Day which, of course, is the true expression of thanks in a modern society. In Canada, our National Shopping Day comes the day after Christmas -- "Boxing Day" -- which, by coming a month later than the US holiday, is generally more consumer friendly since the discounts are usually better after Christmas than before.
